DK-1

DK-1 is not a registered female but may be the most special cow on the farm. DK-1 is a hybrid 3/4 Gelbvieh who was born in 2004 to one of our top commercial females, K-9. When DK-1 was just two months old, we lost her mother, K-9. The next few months involved long hours in the barn bottle-feeding the young calf to weaning age.

Johnny Kittle’s wife, Dana, gets much of the credit for both raising DK-1 and pushing to keep her in the herd. In fact, Johnny tagged the cow with the DK tag to signify it was “Dana’s cow.”

DK-1 has been a phenomenal calf-raiser. All four of her heifers remain in the herd and are among the top commercial cows in the operation. DK-1 has also produced top-notch bull calves who have sold as herd sires, including her 2013 bull calf out of Hart Star who was purchased by a local commercial cattleman, Dewight Jones.
